THE LOTTERY BALL WALL
The Ontario Lottery & Gaming client was looking for a permanent wall installation. Why not cover it up with thousands of lottery balls? Easier said than done. Read on.
Getting lucky.
Using real lottery balls would of been logical. But the truth is that real lottery balls are secure products. Not anyone can go out and buy a couple thousand for display purposes. Even if you're the lottery. For one thing they're also not cheap and used ones are intentionally destroyed. So we made our own. We landed on the approach of creating a 3D wallpaper. Moulds were created so we could vacuum form balls in a variety of coloured plastics. Decals with numbers were applied to complete the look. Then the sheets were assembled onto large panels which would then be assembled and mounted to the wall. It sounds easy but it wasn't. And if it wasn't for a relentless producer (guy in the white hair - Mr. Bruce ) odds are this never would of happened.
Pre-visualization
The project starts with a pencil sketch to align on the idea. Then detailed 3D renderings are made to scale in order to anticipate all aspects of the final design.
